We are delighted to announce soprano Soraya Mafi as a new Associate Artist of Classical Opera.
Soraya performed at our Gala evening earlier this year, and she will join acclaimed keyboard player Kristian Bezuidenhout, with Ian Page and the Orchestra of Classical Opera, at Wigmore Hall in May 2017. She also performed the role of Fortuna on Classical Opera’s recording of Mozart’s Il sogno di Scipione, due for release autumn 2017.
Soraya studied at the Royal Northern College of Music and the Royal College of Music International Opera School. She won the Susan Chilcott Award 2016 and the Maggie Teyte Prize 2014 and was awarded 2nd Prize in the 2015 Kathleen Ferrier Awards. She is currently performing with Opera North as Suor Genoveva in Puccini’s Suor Angelica. Visit Soraya’s website.
Classical Opera’s Associate Artist Scheme was launched in 2006, with the aim of nurturing exceptional young singers in the early stages of their career. Many previous Classical Opera Assocaite Artists are now in demand with the world’s leading opera houses, including Rebecca Bottone, Pumeza Matshikiza Allan Clayton, and Sophie Bevan.
